The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-2) has issued arrest warrants against 11 individuals, including former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman, in a crimes against humanity case over the killing of Imam Hasan Taim in Jatrabari.

A three-member bench of ICT-2, led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, issued the order on Wednesday after formally taking note of the prosecution’s charges. The tribunal has directed that the accused be arrested and produced before the court on 5 January, Prosecutor Abdullah Al Noman told reporters.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, the prosecution formally filed charges against all 11 accused, including former DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman. Following a hearing, the tribunal accepted the charges.

The case relates to the death of Imam Hasan Taim on 20 July, 2024 near the Kajla footbridge under Jatrabari Police Station, during an anti-discrimination student movement, when he was shot by police.

Taim’s father, Md Maynal Hossain Bhuiya, is also a police officer.
