NCP’s chief organiser for the northern region Sarjis Alam has urged voters to assess the conduct of grassroots activists, not just party leaders, before casting their ballots in the upcoming 13th National Parliament election.
Speaking at an election rally on Thursday in Panchagarh, Sarjis stressed the importance of voting for a platform that ensures freedom from oppression, threats and fear.
“I will not ask you even once to vote for me,” he said, addressing the gathering.
Directing his remarks to members of the Sanatani community, he asked them to consider which parties had been involved in extortion, syndicates, threats and other unethical activities over the past one and a half years.
He said that if activists of the NCP or Jamaat were found to be responsible for such acts, they should not receive votes, adding that the same standard should apply to any party involved in such practices.
Voters, he said, should only support a party where everyone from top leadership to ward-level workers maintains good character.
Alam said Members of Parliament and ministers often live outside their constituencies and visit mainly for official duties, while local residents must live every day alongside party activists at district and ward levels.
“If those grassroots workers are not good people, the safety and well-being of the public cannot be ensured,” he said.
He said the upcoming election would decide whether citizens can live with dignity, urging voters to carefully consider where they cast their votes.
