A Jubo Dal leader was shot dead by miscreants in Khulna city on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Rasikul Anam Rasu, 36.
Rasu was the joint general secretary of Daulatpur thana unit of Jubo Dal, said Sheikh Sadi, organising secretary of Khulna City unit of BNP.
Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Hasan said that the incident took place in an area adjacent to Kalpataru field in the city’s Daulatpur around 12pm.
According to eyewitnesses, several miscreants suddenly opened fire targeting Rasikul at Kalpataru field. He was rescued by locals and taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
KMP Commissioner Zahidul said, “The body has been kept in the morgue of Khulna Medical College Hospital. Upon receiving the news, police visited the spot and collected evidence. However, the cause of the murder and the identity of those involved could not be known immediately.”
He further said that the police have initiated an investigation and are conducting operations to identify and arrest those responsible.
