Jahangirnagar University (JU) has suspended all classes and examinations for the day in observance of the demise of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

The university halted all academic activities on Tuesday to mourn the country’s first woman prime minister.

In a notification signed by acting registrar ABM Azizur Rahman, the university authorities also announced the suspension of all administrative and departmental meetings as a mark of respect.

In a condolence message, Jahangirnagar University expressed deep sorrow over Khaleda Zia’s death. The university prayed for the eternal peace of her soul and extended heartfelt sympathy to her family members and admirers.

Begum Khaleda Zia passed away at around 6am while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. She had been suffering from various long-term health complications.
