Journalists in Dhaka formed a human chain on Monday protesting the vandalism, looting, and arson attacks on the offices of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star.
The Editors’ Council and the Newspaper Owners’ Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) jointly organised the protest under the banner “Media and Bangladesh Attacked by Mob Violence”.
Leaders of various political parties, professional bodies, business associations, and representatives of civil society joined the human chain on the road adjacent to the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel to express solidarity. Prior to the demonstration, a protest meeting was held at the hotel.
The attacks on Prothom Alo and The Daily Star were carried out on Thursday night, involving arson, vandalism, and looting. Editors’ Council President Nurul Kabir was also assaulted while visiting The Daily Star on that day.
