The Jordanian government has declared a general amnesty for undocumented Bangladeshi expatriates, allowing them to either regularise their stay or return home without facing financial penalties.
The Bangladesh Embassy in Jordan shared this information through a special notice issued on Wednesday. According to the embassy, the Jordan government has extended this amnesty to all illegal migrant workers currently in the country.
Under the terms of the announcement, any undocumented worker may return to their home country without paying fines, or alternatively, they may continue working in Jordan subject to certain conditions.
The amnesty further provides workers with the flexibility to change their place of employment. Specifically, domestic workers are now permitted to work under new employers.
Additionally, those who originally entered Jordan on tourist visas have been granted the opportunity to apply for work permits.
The embassy has urged all interested expatriates to contact the mission to avail themselves of these facilities. This development has been received as a significant relief for many Bangladeshi workers currently stranded in Jordan.
