Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam on Wednesday said the government and opposition are expected to bring a joint proposal on amending the constitution, expressing hope that existing differences will be resolved through dialogue.

Speaking to reporters on the National Parliament premises, he acknowledged that disagreements remain between the two sides but said efforts are underway to reach a consensus.

He said the primary objective of the proposed amendment is to strengthen democracy, safeguard independence and sovereignty, and promote the country’s overall development.

Emphasising the role of Parliament, he noted that meaningful debate and constructive criticism are essential for progress.

The chief whip also said the prime minister has been working to ensure public welfare, establish a humane state, and uphold democratic values and national sovereignty.

Highlighting the need for employment generation, he stressed the importance of developing a skilled workforce through language education. He said learning Arabic, Mandarin, Italian, Korean, and Japanese would enhance overseas employment opportunities, while English remains important as a global language.

He added that the education ministry is preparing a guideline on language training, which will be submitted to the prime minister.
