Jeff Garcia, the comedian and actor best known for voicing Sheen Estevez in ‘Jimmy Neutron’, has died at the age of 50. His son, Joseph Garcia, confirmed the news, stating that the performer passed away in a Southern California hospital surrounded by loved ones.
According to reports, Garcia had faced a series of serious health issues in recent months. He suffered a brain aneurysm earlier in the year and had a stroke only weeks ago. He was admitted to hospital on November 20 with pneumonia but was later discharged. He returned on Monday with breathing difficulties and died on December 9 after a collapsed lung.
Garcia became one of the most recognisable voices in 2000s children’s animation. His energetic performance as Sheen made him a standout in the 2001 film ‘Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius’ and its television spin off, eventually leading to the series ‘Planet Sheen’. He also voiced Pip in ‘Barnyard’ and contributed to ‘ChalkZone’, ‘Back at the Barnyard’ and several related video games.
Beyond Nickelodeon, his voice appeared in films including ‘Happy Feet’, ‘Ri and ‘The Proud Family’. Garcia also maintained a career in stand up comedy.
Paying tribute on Instagram, his son wrote: “From voice acting to stand up comedy, he shined with his quick wit, brash humor, and charm. He has made such an impact on people’s lives internationally, whether you grew up watching Jimmy Neutron, or shared a laugh with him at one of his shows. He was my hero… I idolized him. He may be gone, but he will NEVER be forgotten.”
