Bangladeshi actor Jaya Ahsan has revealed that filming romantic scenes with longtime co-star Abir Chatterjee can sometimes be challenging—not because of a lack of chemistry, but because they have become such close friends.
The actress made the remark during a recent interview with Kolkata-based daily Anandabazar Patrika while promoting her latest film, Ajo Ardhangini, directed by Kaushik Ganguly, which is currently running in cinemas across West Bengal.
During a rapid-fire segment, Jaya picked a chit bearing Abir Chatterjee’s name and was asked about him. Smiling, she described Abir as one of her favourite co-stars and a close friend.
“Abir is one of my favourite friends and co-actors. I feel extremely comfortable working with him. We share a wonderful understanding,” she said.
Jaya and Abir have shared the screen in critically acclaimed films including Bisorjon, Bijoya and Putul Nacher Itikatha.
Their on-screen pairing has been widely appreciated by audiences in both Bangladesh and India, while their off-screen friendship has also become well known in the Bengali film industry.
The actress said working together on multiple projects over the years has created a strong comfort zone between them.
She also praised Abir’s personality, describing him as a calm, grounded and dependable person who balances his professional and personal life with ease.
However, that close friendship sometimes creates an unexpected challenge during filming.
“We are so comfortable with each other that sometimes it becomes difficult to do romantic scenes. The romance doesn’t come naturally because our friendship is so strong,” Jaya said.
Jaya’s candid remark has sparked interest among fans, many of whom have admired the duo’s on-screen chemistry for years despite their close off-screen bond.
