Jason Momoa has officially stepped into the DC Universe once again, this time as the notorious antihero Lobo, with director James Gunn unveiling the first look from ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’.
Gunn shared a short behind-the-scenes clip on social media, showing Momoa emerging from his trailer in full character, complete with Lobo’s trademark fangs, before heading to set. The footage then cuts to the first official image of the actor as the intergalactic bounty hunter, confirming his long-anticipated casting.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow marks the second film in Gunn and Peter Safran’s newly rebooted DC Universe, following Superman, due out in 2025. The film stars Milly Alcock, best known for House of the Dragon, as Kara Zor-El. It is directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, adapting the acclaimed DC comic series by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.
The cast also includes Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem of the Yellow Hill and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Mary Knolle. Momoa’s involvement was confirmed in late 2024, years after the actor publicly declared Lobo as his dream comic-book role.
Previously known for playing Aquaman in the former DC franchise, Momoa has long expressed his enthusiasm for portraying the foul-mouthed, chaotic antihero, calling it a perfect fit. His transformation into Lobo signals a clear tonal shift from his earlier superhero work.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is scheduled for release in cinemas on June 26, with Momoa’s debut as Lobo expected to play a significant role in shaping the future of the revamped DC Universe.
