Toll collection at the Jamuna Bridge reached Tk3.68 crore in the last 24 hours as homebound travellers continued to increase pressure on the Dhaka–Tangail–Jamuna Bridge highway ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.
Officials said 53,246 vehicles crossed the bridge during the 24-hour period amid rising traffic linked to the Eid holiday rush.
The information was confirmed on Tuesday morning by Jamuna Bridge site office Executive Engineer Syed Riaz Uddin.
Bridge authorities said 32,186 northbound vehicles crossed the Jamuna Bridge from Sunday midnight to Monday midnight.
The toll collected from this side stood at Tk1.92 crore.
During the same period, 21,060 vehicles travelled towards Dhaka, generating Tk1.76 crore.
Engineer Syed Riaz Uddin said rainfall and heavy vehicle pressure created some congestion during the night. He said the situation was expected to normalise gradually with time.
He added that 18 toll booths remained operational on both sides of the bridge to manage Eid traffic smoothly. Two dedicated booths were also used for motorbike crossings.
