Three members of the same family were killed after a pickup van carrying vegetables collided head-on with a motorcycle on an all-weather road in Mithamain upazila of Kishoreganj’s haor region.
The accident took place on Monday evening near the Vathshala Bridge area on the Mithamain side of the all-weather road. All three died on the spot.
The deceased were identified as Monir Hossain, 37, his wife Munnie Akter, 30 and their son Mohammad Ayan, 10, residents of Mohisharkandi village under Mithamain upazila headquarters. Monir Hossain ran two coaching centres in Kishoreganj town.
Local sources said the family was travelling to Mithamain from Austagram on a motorcycle in the evening when it collided head-on with a vegetable-laden pickup coming from the opposite direction.
After the crash, the pickup van attempted to flee the scene. Locals intercepted the vehicle and detained the driver. Police later reached the spot, seized the pickup and took the driver into custody.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (Austagram Circle) Md Shahidul Haque confirmed the incident. He said all three motorcycle passengers from the same family died on the spot.
He added that legal procedures were underway in connection with the accident.
