BNP Chairperson’s advisory council member Zainul Abedin Farroque on Sunday said Jamaat-e-Islami will not be able to succeed in any conspiracy aimed at disrupting the upcoming national election.

He made the remark on Sunday afternoon at a discussion titled “Calling on the landless to unite to strengthen the hand of Tarique Rahman in the upcoming national parliamentary election” at the National Press Club.

He said, “I want to state clearly, no matter what conspiracies you engage in, if you try to sabotage Bangladesh’s election by building ties with Awami ghosts… nothing will happen. None of your conspiracies will succeed. Because Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has said that there will be a fair election in Bangladesh.”

Criticising the past activities of Jamaat-e-Islami, he said those who remained inactive over the past ten years, those who sought opportunities to escape cases by colluding with the Awami League, are now joining with several parties to conspire to sabotage Bangladesh’s election.

“You took part in oppression and injustice against those who fought with weapons. When Khaleda Zia was forced out with only the clothes she was wearing, where were you? You colluded with fascist Sheikh Hasina and even participated in an election once,” he said.

Demanding the execution of the verdict given against Sheikh Hasina for genocide in the International Crimes Tribunal, Zainul Abedin Farooq said the verdict must be carried out.

He further said that if a prisoner exchange agreement and friendly relations are to be maintained, then according to international rules Hasina must be returned to Bangladesh without delay under the prisoner exchange agreement.
