The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for submitting income tax returns by one month to help individual taxpayers.
In a special order on Sunday, the NBR moved the deadline from 30 November to 31 December.
In a separate order, the board said taxpayers facing difficulties filing returns online due to registration issues in the e-return system may apply to the concerned deputy tax commissioner with justification by 15 December.
The NBR made online return submission mandatory this year for all individual taxpayers except: senior citizens aged 65 or above, physically challenged or specially abled taxpayers, Bangladeshi taxpayers living abroad, legal representatives filing for deceased taxpayers, and foreign nationals working in Bangladesh.
Although several groups are exempt from mandatory online filing for the 2025–26 tax year, they may still choose to file electronically.
Authorized representatives of taxpayers are also allowed to submit e-returns online this year. For Bangladeshi taxpayers residing abroad, online filing is not mandatory, but they may obtain registration by emailing their passport number, NID number, and email address to [email protected].
The e-return system lets taxpayers submit accurate income, expenditure, assets, and liabilities information without uploading supporting documents.
Taxpayers can pay taxes via debit or credit cards, internet banking, or mobile financial services such as bKash or Nagad. Once filed, they can instantly download the automated submission slip and print their tax certificate.
So far, more than 1.8 million taxpayers have submitted their returns online this year.
