Newly elected members of parliament from Jamaat-e-Islami have announced that they will not accept tax-free vehicles or government plots, party leader and senior Supreme Court lawyer Mohammad Shishir Manir confirmed on Monday.
Manir shared the decision on his verified Facebook page at 7:49am, stating, “As announced earlier, our MPs will not accept tax-free cars or government plots, Insha’Allah.”
The announcement echoes an earlier declaration by Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, made on 7 November 2025, at a convention organised by Sylhet City Jamaat.
Speaking to party supporters, he said, “If any of our members are elected as MPs in the future, they will neither take government plots nor use tax-free vehicles.”
The 13th parliamentary election and referendum were held on 12 February. Voting took place in 299 constituencies, with results declared for 297.
The Jamaat alliance won in 77 constituencies, with Jamaat-e-Islami itself securing a record 68 seats.
Other alliance members include NCP, founded by student leaders of the July movement, which won 6 seats, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis with 2 seats, and Khelafat Majlis winning 1 seat.
