The newly elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Gaibandha-2, Abdul Karim, has officially commenced his duties by leading a cleanliness campaign in Gaibandha city.
Abdul Karim, who also serves as the district ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, took to the streets with a broom in hand following the Fajr prayers on Sunday.
He was accompanied by over a hundred leaders and activists from Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir.
The MP was joined in the campaign by several key local figures, including Faisal Kabir Rana, assistant secretary of Gaibandha district Jamaat; AKM Ferdous Alam Firoz, Gaibandha city ameer; Md Nurunnabi Sarkar, assistant secretary of Sadar Upazila Jamaat; and Md Humayun Farhan Sadiq, president of the city unit.
Speaking during the drive, Abdul Karim outlined his broader vision for the nation. “I want to remove all forms of refuse from the country through state reform. We will build a clean nation,” he stated.
He emphasised that if every citizen cleaned their own premises, the entire country would become clean.
The MP further noted that he chose to begin his official activities by honouring the sanctity of Ramadan and ensuring the cleanliness of the city. “I do not wish to act merely as a Member of Parliament; I want to be a servant to the people of my constituency,” he remarked.
Local residents have reportedly welcomed this public-oriented initiative by the newly elected lawmaker.
