Jamaat-e-Islami has invited Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his family to attend an Iftar programme scheduled for 28 February.
Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar confirmed that the prime minister has accepted the invitation with sincerity.
A delegation from the party arrived at the Secretariat on Wednesday morning to deliver the invitation letter.
This formal courtesy meeting, the first since the formation of new government, saw both sides exchanging greetings.
During the visit, the prime minister also enquired about the health of Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, who serves as the Leader of the Opposition, via a telephone call.
Addressing political matters, Tarique stated that the Parliament should be the centre for all political debates. In response, Jamaat leaders expressed their support for this view but noted that systematic movements on the streets are a part of politics.
They further emphasised that “bad practices” in politics, as seen in the past, should be avoided.
Regarding the current administration, the Jamaat leadership observed that it is not yet time to evaluate the government’s performance, as the nation continues to wait for positive outcomes.
Porwar expressed his hope for the country’s progress through effective coordination and solidarity between the government and the opposition.
