Newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir officially assumed office on Wednesday morning.
He was appointed as the IGP of Bangladesh Police on Tuesday, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs. He succeeds Baharul Alam.
Before his appointment, Fakir served as the Additional IGP of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn).
Ali Hossain joined the Bangladesh Police as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) on 15 November 1995 under the 15th BCS (Police) batch. Over the course of his career, he has held various positions, including Superintendent of Police (SP) in Netrakona, Feni, and Magura districts.
He also represented Bangladesh Police in United Nations Peacekeeping Missions in Kosovo and Ivory Coast, and has visited several countries, including the USA and China, for official duties and training.
Upon his arrival at Police Headquarters, the new IGP was accorded a guard of honour by a police contingent.
