Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has concluded a two-day training workshop for its Members of Parliament (MPs) to enhance their knowledge and capacity in national budget matters, economic policy, and public administration.
The workshop, titled “Budget, Economy and Public Policy: Capacity Development of Members of Parliament,” was held on 5 and 6 June (Friday and Saturday) at the Al-Falah Auditorium in Moghbazar of the capital.
Organised by the party’s Central Human Resources Department, the programme aimed to prepare MPs for a research-based and effective role in the upcoming 2026-27 national budget session.
Addressing various sessions as the chief guest, Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, emphasised that as representatives of the people, every decision and statement made by MPs must be pro-people and welfare-oriented.
He asserted that Jamaat MPs must play a constructive and strong role in the forthcoming budget session regarding the economic rights of common citizens, good governance, and the establishment of a welfare state.
The party’s Secretary General and other top leaders also addressed the programme. They urged the MPs to adopt more skilled, research-reliant, and responsible roles in parliamentary activities, the law-making process, and issues of public interest.
Throughout the two-day event, distinguished economists, budget analysts, and policymakers presented various papers. Detailed discussions were held on the country’s macroeconomic situation, inflation control, employment generation, revenue management, and the various facets of formulating a welfare-oriented budget.
The workshop also provided the parliamentarians with strategic guidelines on analysing national budget sectors, effectively presenting public expectations and demands in Parliament, and techniques for data-driven participation in budget debates.
