A delegation of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Monday submitted the nomination papers of the party’s Ameer, Shafiqur Rahman, for the Dhaka-15 parliamentary seat.
The papers were filed on the last day for nomination submission with Returning Officer Md Yunus Ali at the Election Training Institute (ETI) building in Agargaon, which handles both Dhaka-13 and Dhaka-15 constituencies.
The delegation was led by Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair and included senior party leaders Maulana Abdul Halim and executive committee member Mobarak Hossain, among others.
Speaking after filing the papers, Zubair said, “We have submitted the nomination on behalf of our Ameer on the final day. We hope for a free, fair, and acceptable election.”
He emphasised the importance of a level playing field for all candidates, adding, “There is still work to be done, and we expect the Election Commission to ensure fairness throughout the process.”
When asked about the current electoral environment, Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair noted that the Election Commission has more work to do to create a conducive atmosphere for voters and candidates alike.
Earlier, on 25 December, the party had collected the nomination papers on behalf of Shafiqur Rahman, completing the initial steps ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
