The Detective Branch (DB) of police has found evidence of Bangabhaban official Sarwar Alam’s involvement in hacking the X (formerly Twitter) account of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman during a preliminary investigation.
Sarwar Alam, an assistant programmer at the President’s Office, has been shown arrested in connection with a case filed at Hatirjheel Police Station.
Additional Police Commissioner and DB Chief Md Shafiqul Islam confirmed the development during a press conference at the DMP Media Center on Wednesday night.
The DB chief stated that investigators have seized Sarwar’s mobile phone, computer hard disk, and other electronic devices for the investigation. These materials have been sent to a forensic lab for further analysis.
When asked about the legality of searching Bangabhaban before a formal case was filed, the DB chief mentioned that the authority providing permission would be able to clarify the matter. The officer-in-charge (OC) of Hatirjheel Police Station declined to comment on the matter.
During the briefing, the DB chief also urged the public to refrain from spreading misleading information regarding the incident on social media.
