Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has issued a stern warning to the public regarding the spread of rumours ahead of the election, urging people not to pay attention to the false information circulating in the final hours before the vote.

In a Facebook post shared around 11pm on Wednesday, he urged citizens to be cautious and avoid giving attention to the false information circulating.

“Dear countrymen, the “Lailatul Gujab” (night of rumours), is underway. Stay alert and do not entertain these rumors. Insha Allah, the victory of truth is inevitable,” Shafiqur Rahman wrote on his verified page.

The warning came in the wake of a significant event earlier in the day, when Belal Uddin, the ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Thakurgaon district, was arrested at Saidpur Airport in Nilphamari with a large sum of money. Police confirmed they found Tk74lak in his possession.

However, Jamaat-e-Islami has strongly denied the accusations, claiming that the arrest was part of a plot to tarnish the party’s leadership. The party asserts that the entire episode was fabricated to discredit their candidates and influence the election results.

In a separate incident, a joint security team in Shariatpur recovered Tk7.2lakh from a Jamaat-e-Islami election office located in the South Baishakhipara area of Naria Municipality.

During the operation, a polling officer who was overseeing the voting process was arrested and sentenced to two years in prison for his involvement in the incident.

Despite the arrests, Jamaat leaders maintain that these actions are politically motivated, aimed at undermining the party’s credibility in the final stretch of the election campaign.
