Bangladesh Nationalist Party Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan said the decision to form an alliance with Jamaat does not align with the National Citizen Party’s declared ideology, triggering internal divisions.
He said the move has prompted some party members to leave.
He said all political parties have the right to form alliances in line with their stated principles, but the current move by the National Citizen Party contradicts its own declared ideology.
Nazrul Islam Khan made the remarks on Sunday afternoon after a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner at the Election Building in Agargaon, where he led a three-member Bangladesh Nationalist Party delegation.
Speaking after the nearly 45-minute meeting, he said discussions were held on complications arising from the requirement to submit information on children’s assets with nomination papers, despite such a provision not being included in the Representation of the People Order.
He also said the Bangladesh Nationalist Party has submitted an application seeking measures to prevent the misuse of information through the use of artificial intelligence.
