Italy has shown a strong interest in expanding its sustainable trade and investment partnership with Bangladesh. This was highlighted during a meeting held on Wednesday between Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin and Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Antonio Alessandro at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
The discussion focused on various aspects of bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation, with both sides emphasizing the need to deepen and diversify their economic relationship.
Sheikh Bashir Uddin expressed Bangladesh’s eagerness to bolster ties with Italy, highlighting the country’s improved investment climate. He reassured the ambassador that the Ministry of Commerce would extend all necessary support to Italian investors wishing to explore opportunities in Bangladesh.
In response, Ambassador Antonio Alessandro noted Italy’s enthusiasm for increasing investment and technology transfer to Bangladesh, particularly in the small and medium enterprises sector, where there is significant room for collaboration.
The meeting was also attended by Md Abdur Rahim Khan, additional secretary of the commerce ministry, and Federico Zamparelli, deputy head of mission at the Embassy of Italy in Dhaka.
