Israel has engaged in secret negotiations with Russia concerning Iran and Syria during the ceasefire it reached with Tehran, according to a report published Wednesday.
Israeli state broadcaster KAN revealed that Tel Aviv has maintained high-level contacts with Moscow in an effort to pursue a diplomatic resolution involving both Iran and Syria. These talks reportedly began about a week after the ceasefire was declared, following a Russian proposal to mediate between Israel and Iran, reports Anadolu.
While the report did not disclose specific details about the discussions, it highlights an ongoing effort by Israel to manage regional tensions through backchannel diplomacy.
In parallel, Israel is also seeking a broader strategic agreement with the United States concerning Iran. According to the report, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to bring up the issue during his upcoming meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington next week.
The goal, sources suggest, is to establish a framework on Iran akin to the agreement previously reached with Lebanon.
Israel launched a series of airstrikes against Iranian targets on June 13, which were halted after a ceasefire was announced by President Trump on June 24.
Since the ceasefire took effect, Israeli officials have been discussing the expansion of so-called “normalization agreements”—part of the Abraham Accords. It is also claimed that negotiations with Syria are ongoing as part of these broader diplomatic efforts.
