Police have filed a general diary (GD) over an altercation between independent lawmaker Rumeen Farhana and Sarail Police Station Officer-in-Charge Manzur Kader Bhuiyan in Brahmanbaria.

The police are also preparing a list of people who accompanied the lawmaker to the police station, the OC said.

The GD was filed on Thursday night, though the development came to light on Friday evening.

Confirming the matter, OC Manzur Kader Bhuiyan said further steps would be taken following instructions from senior police officials.

According to the MP’s supporters, tensions between Rumeen Farhana and the OC had been building for several days. They alleged that the officer had ignored phone calls from the lawmaker and her personal assistant, Zakir Hossain, and had failed to respond to her request for security.

Against this backdrop, Rumeen Farhana, who represents the Brahmanbaria-2 constituency covering Sarail, Ashuganj and part of Bijoynagar, went to the OC’s office at Sarail Police Station with party workers and supporters at around 7:30pm on Thursday.

A heated argument followed between the lawmaker, the police officer and those accompanying her over allegations of security lapses and police misconduct.

Several videos of the exchange later circulated on Facebook.

Meanwhile, the MP’s personal assistant, Zakir Hossain, said they were preparing a written complaint against the officer for submission to senior police authorities.
