An attempt was made to set fire to the storeroom of AJR Courier Service in Dhaka’s Hazaribagh early Sunday.
Miscreants allegedly poured petrol on an internet cable and set it on fire. Nearby residents noticed the blaze and quickly extinguished it, preventing it from spreading.
When residents chased the miscreants, they fled the scene, several officials at Hazaribagh Police Station said.
Police were informed immediately.
The courier service had previously been attacked and vandalised on two occasions, with the perpetrators allegedly looting the premises and demanding extortion money.
A case was filed with Hazaribagh Police Station over the attack.
Following this, complainant Afshar Uddin allegedly received threats over the phone from the miscreants, who warned that his “body would be lying on the road.” A general diary (GD) was subsequently filed with the police station over the threat.
On Friday morning, the miscreants also allegedly vandalised vehicles at the operations warehouse of AJR Parcel and Courier Service Ltd.
