Two Facebook posts published on a page operated under the name of Jamalganj Assistant Commissioner (Land) Arifur Rahman Shanto in Sunamganj have sparked widespread discussion in the area.
On Friday night, a message concerning death was published on the Facebook page named ‘AC Land Jamalganj’, holding Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shilpi Rani Modak responsible. Shortly afterwards, another post appeared on the same page hinting at resignation from the administration cadre. Both posts subsequently circulated widely on social media.
Following the incident, Jamalganj UNO Shilpi Rani Modak issued a warning on her official Facebook page, saying the AC Land’s Facebook account might have been hacked.
She urged people not to be misled by the posts. The two messages were later removed from the page.
According to Modak, AC Land Arifur Rahman Shanto and his wife had attended a birthday celebration for her daughter. The Facebook message came to her attention shortly after the couple left her residence following the event.
She said the district administration was contacted after the matter came to light. Accompanied by the officer-in-charge of the local police station and a resident medical officer, she subsequently visited Shanto’s residence to check on his physical condition.
After receiving initial treatment, Shanto was sent to Sylhet for advanced medical care. Arrangements were also under way to transfer him to Dhaka, she said.
The UNO said the actual circumstances behind the posts could become clear once Shanto recovered and returned.
Meanwhile, the publication and subsequent deletion of the posts have prompted widespread discussion among local residents. Many social media users have called for an investigation to establish what happened.
However, it remains unclear whether the Facebook account was hacked or who published the posts and how. Nothing can be confirmed until the relevant authorities release the findings of a formal investigation.
