A section of Islami Bank customers continued their demonstration for the second consecutive day on Tuesday in front of the bank’s headquarters at Dilkusha in Motijheel, demanding the resignation of newly appointed chairman Khurshid Alam and the entire board of directors.
According to UNB, the protesters, under the banner of Islami Bank Conscious Customers Forum, gathered in front of the headquarters around 9:00 am carrying placards.
They alleged irregularities in the recent changes in the bank’s top management. They also demanded the immediate dissolution of the board, including the chairman, to ensure transparency and protect customer interests.
The demonstration continued until the filing of this report.
Police deployed water cannons, armoured vehicles and additional personnel to maintain order at the scene.
Protesters alleged that Khurshid Alam has links with the Chattogram-based S Alam Group and demanded his removal.
Earlier on Monday, police used water cannons, tear gas shells and sound grenades to disperse demonstrators outside the Islami Bank head office. The clashes left both protesters and police personnel injured.
