The intensity of heat has risen in several regions of the country, including the capital Dhaka, as rainfall decreased at the start of the month.
Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said a mild heatwave may continue in parts of the country on Tuesday, though rain and thundershowers are possible in several divisions.
In its six‑hour forecast for Dhaka and adjacent areas from 7am, the department noted the sky may remain temporarily partly cloudy, with weather likely to stay mainly dry. Winds may blow from the south or southwest at 10 to 15 kilometres per hour, while day temperatures may remain nearly unchanged.
According to BMD’s 24‑hour forecast, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds may occur at some places in Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and at one or two places in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna and Barishal divisions.
Moderately heavy rainfall is also possible in some areas of Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.
Elsewhere, weather may remain mainly dry with a partly cloudy sky. Day and night temperatures across the country are expected to stay nearly unchanged.
At 6am, Dhaka recorded 29°C with relative humidity at 83 percent. The minimum temperature on Tuesday was 28.6°C. No rainfall was recorded in the past 24 hours.
BMD said the mild heatwave sweeping Dhaka, Narayanganj, Tangail, Faridpur, Gopalganj, Mymensingh, Chandpur and Lakshmipur districts, as well as Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal divisions, may continue.
