China Railway Construction Bridge Engineering Bureau Group Co Ltd (CRCC), the contractor of the Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway project, has pledged to accelerate construction after a high-level delegation met Secretary of the Bridge Division and Executive Director of Bangladesh Bridge Authority Mohammad Abdur Rouf in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The meeting focused on expediting the government-to-government (G2G) project, which aims to ease congestion on Dhaka’s western gateway and surrounding industrial areas while improving uninterrupted road connectivity, the Bridge Division said in a press release.
The CRCC delegation was led by its Chairman Wu Yankun.
Rouf said the country’s transport infrastructure was undergoing a major transformation under the government’s vision of building a modern Bangladesh. He said projects such as the Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway had moved forward due to the Prime Minister’s guidance, commitment, approval of the second revised development project proposal (RDPP) and continuous monitoring.
He also credited the leadership of the Minister and State Minister of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges for advancing the country’s overall communication infrastructure.
Once operational, the expressway will significantly improve road connectivity between Dhaka and the northern and western regions, Rouf said. The project will also transform connectivity with Savar, Ashulia and the Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ), while expanding uninterrupted links between Dhaka and northern districts, contributing to economic growth.
CRCC Chairman Wu Yankun thanked the Bangladesh government, the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and the Bridge Division for their cooperation. He expressed the company’s commitment to completing the project within the stipulated timeframe by applying international-standard engineering technology, improving efficiency and increasing the supply of manpower, machinery and materials.
The meeting also stressed ensuring smooth public movement in construction areas through adequate traffic management, proper signage and improved safety barriers.
Rouf instructed the contractor and the project director to maintain construction quality and complete the Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway by June 2028 as scheduled.
