Islami Andolan Bangladesh will hold a grand rally in Dhaka on 9 January, demanding the arrest of the perpetrators behind the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi and aiming to build public support for the July Charter.

The decision was taken at the party’s regular meeting held on Thursday afternoon at its office in Purana Paltan. The meeting was chaired by Islami Andolan Bangladesh Ameer Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, also known as Pir Saheb Charmonai.

Party leaders said the rally will press for several demands, including the arrest of those involved in the killing of Osman Hadi and other murders, improvement of the country’s law and order situation, recovery of illegal firearms, and the creation of a level playing field.

The rally also aims to generate public opinion in favour of the July Charter through a referendum.

Addressing the meeting, Muhammad Rezaul Karim expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the country and criticised the authorities for failing to bring those responsible for Osman Hadi’s killing to justice.

The meeting was attended by Islami Andolan Bangladesh Secretary General Principal Hafez Maulana Yunus Ahmad, Assistant Secretary Generals Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman, Engineer Ashraful Alam, Maulana Sheikh Fazle Bari Masud and KM Atikur Rahman, Organising Secretary Shah Iftekhar Tariq, along with other central leaders of the party.
