International School Dhaka (ISD) commemorated the 55th Victory Day of Bangladesh through a student-led assembly that brought together learners, teachers and staff to honour the country’s history and the sacrifices of the martyrs.
The programme featured a series of performances planned and presented by students from different grades, celebrating patriotism, unity and the spirit of the Liberation War, the school said in a press release.
The assembly began with a welcome address by Primary School Principal Michael Palmer and was hosted by students from the Primary Years Programme and the Middle Years Programme, followed by the national anthem.
Students then presented a narration on the history of Bangladesh, alongside dance performances set to songs including Agami Ponchashe, Ekti Bangladesh Tumi Jagroto Jonotar, Cholo Shobai and O Prithibi Ebar Eshe, adding vibrant energy to the programme.
A drama titled Potakar Mullo was staged during the assembly, while the audience also enjoyed a live musical performance of the song Brave and a poetry recitation of Abar Ashibo Phire.
“Victory Day is a reminder of the sacrifices that shaped Bangladesh, and it is important that students grow up understanding what the day truly represents,” said ISD Primary School Principal Michael Palmer.
Seeing students confidently and respectfully lead the assembly reflected how deeply they value the country’s heritage, while the performances highlighted their creativity, resilience and pride in the nation, he added.
The event highlighted the significance of the Liberation War and reaffirmed ISD’s commitment to nurturing cultural awareness, national identity and a strong sense of community among its learners and staff.
