Tensions between Washington and Tehran have reached a boiling point as US President Donald Trump announced a massive naval deployment while Iranian officials declared their military is on high alert.
President Trump used his Truth Social platform to reveal that “A massive Armada is heading to Iran,” describing the fleet as “ready, willing, and able to rapidly fulfill its mission, with speed and violence, if necessary”, reports Al Jazeera.
This military posturing follows increased pressure from the US administration regarding Tehran’s recent suppression of domestic antigovernment protests.
The US President urged the Iranian government to seek a diplomatic resolution, stating, “Hopefully Iran will quickly ‘Come to the Table’ and negotiate a fair and equitable deal, NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS , one that is good for all parties”.
Despite previously asserting that US strikes last year had “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear capabilities, Trump’s current rhetoric focuses heavily on preventing the development of atomic weaponry.
He cautioned that a failure to reach a settlement would lead to consequences “far worse” than the previous bombings of three nuclear sites.
Trump concluded his message with a sense of urgency, telling Iran to “MAKE A DEAL!” because “Time is running out, it is truly of the essence!”.
In response to these warnings, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi asserted that their military is fully prepared to defend the nation’s borders.
Araghchi stated that the “brave Armed Forces are prepared—with their fingers on the trigger—to immediately and powerfully respond to ANY aggression against our beloved land, air, and sea”.
He emphasised that Tehran is now better equipped following the “12-Day War” involving Israel and the US last June. Araghchi noted that the “valuable lessons learned from the 12-Day War have enabled us to respond even more strongly, rapidly, and profoundly” than they could in the past.
