The Iranian armed forces have announced that a second US F-35 fighter jet was shot down over central Iran on Friday. According to reports from the state news agency cited by Reuters, it is unlikely that the pilot survived the incident.
A spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya central HQ stated that the aircraft was intercepted by Revolutionary Guard air defences.
The incident occurred as Iran conducted multiple strikes across the Middle East on Friday. These actions included missile attacks against Israel and Bahrain, as well as drone strikes that set an oil refinery in Kuwait on fire.
This latest claim follows a separate incident last month, in which the US military confirmed that a US F-35 aircraft conducted an emergency landing after a combat mission over Iran. In that instance, the military stated the pilot was in stable condition.
