The deadline for submitting the investigation report against Major General (Retd) Ziaul Ahsan and 11 others in a case involving crimes against humanity has been extended. The tribunal has ordered that the investigation report be submitted on 18 January.
The order was issued on Thursday by International Crimes Tribunal-1 following a time-extension petition filed by the prosecution.
On this day, the judges did not sit in the tribunal courtroom. After 12pm, the order was conveyed from the judges’ chamber.
Lawyer Naznin Nahar, counsel for Ziaul Ahsan, was present in court when the order was issued. Earlier, Ziaul Ahsan had been produced in the dock.
On 26 November, as the investigation had not been completed, the prosecution sought additional time. In response, the tribunal set 11 December as the submission date for the investigation report.
Among the 11 accused in the case, the names of four have been disclosed. They are former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her defence adviser Major General (Retd) Tariq Ahmed Siddiq, former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed and former army officer Ziaul Ahsan. The names of the remaining accused have not been disclosed in the interest of the investigation.
