The 10th edition of the International Babhasi Film Festival 2026 concluded on Thursday (6 August) with a closing and awards ceremony at the Bishwa Sahitya Kendra auditorium in the capital.
The event was attended by Singapore organiser representative Kanu Kumar Nath, playwright Faridul Islam Rubel, director Md Fahad, actor Farid Hossain and Md Jahidul Islam of The Daily Sun.
The festival jury comprised actor Mosharraf Karim, director Naznin Hasan Khan, and actor-director Shamim Zaman.
A total of 75 films were submitted from Bangladesh and abroad. Five films were selected for screening, with awards presented in five categories.
The Penance won the Best Film award, while Meghla Pinaru was named Best Actor for her performance in Bad. Kaushik Ganguly won Best Screenwriter for Megher Pore Megh.
Aditya Sannyasi received the Best Music Director award for The Penance, while Namrata Rao won Best Editor for Rong Pencil.
Following the awards ceremony, the auditorium turned lively with conversations among the guests, filmmakers and participants.
Alongside informal discussions, attendees also exchanged views on the challenges and ways forward for the development of the country’s film industry.
