Violence once again broke out at Dhaka’s Shahbagh intersection as activists from Inqilab Moncho clashed with police during a protest demanding justice for the murder of their spokesperson, Sharif Osman Hadi.
The confrontation began when a group of protesters attempted to march towards Jamuna, prompting law enforcement to fire tear gas shells to halt their progress. Following the skirmish, activists occupied the road from TSC to Shahbagh, causing traffic disruption across the area.
Earlier in the day, in an attempt to disperse the crowd, police deployed batons, rubber bullets, and sound grenades.
Abdullah Al Jaber, the member secretary of Inqilab Moncho, was reportedly shot with rubber bullets, while Ammar, the general secretary of RUCSU, was among at least 30 others who sustained serious injuries.
Many of the injured suffered shrapnel wounds caused by sound grenades, while several police officers were also injured when protesters retaliated by hurling bricks.
The injured were initially taken to Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital (BIRDEM), but hospital authorities denied them entry due to capacity issues, leading to their transfer to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
While police remain stationed near Shahbagh Police Station to restore order, Inqilab Moncho continues to demand swift accountability and action regarding Hadi’s murder.
