An inmate died at Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj on Tuesday, police said.
Prison guards took the inmate, Sujon Mia, 35, to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital at noon, where doctors declared him dead.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical police outpost, confirmed the death, citing hospital physicians.
“The prison authorities brought him to the hospital in an unconscious state. Doctors examined him and declared him dead,” Faruk said.
Hospital authorities kept the body at the morgue for post-mortem examination.
The official said Sujon had been held as a convicted prisoner, though details of his case were not immediately available.
