Faiza Akhter, a 10-year-old girl from Lakshmipur who was injured in a road accident in Saudi Arabia, has returned home.
Faiza, a Class III student of Tiyuri Government Primary School under Bhatara union in Ramganj upazila, arrived at her village home in Nalchhara early Monday with her maternal uncle Tanvir Hossain. Tanvir had left Saudi Arabia with Faiza around 3pm the previous day.
According to Tanvir, Faiza remains unaware that her parents and two sisters were killed in the accident. She believes they are still receiving treatment in hospital and will return home before Eid-ul-Fitr.
The bodies of the deceased are currently at a hospital morgue in Jeddah, with preparations underway to repatriate them to Bangladesh.
The accident occurred on 15 February around 3am Bangladesh time, while the family was returning to their Jeddah residence after performing Umrah. Faiza’s father, Mizanur Rahman Mizan, his wife Farzana Akhter Sumi, their daughter Meher Afroze, 13, and one-and-a-half-year-old Subha Akhter were killed, along with the driver, Md Zilani Babar.
Faiza, the couple’s second daughter, was seriously injured and had been receiving treatment at King Faisal Hospital in Jeddah.
Mizan, a Bangladeshi expatriate, had traveled to Saudi Arabia on 3 February with his wife and three daughters to perform Umrah.
