Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has announced that the government has approved the withdrawal of 1,202 more politically motivated cases filed against opposition party leaders and activists over the past 17 years.

He said the cases were lodged during the tenure of the previous “fascist government.” A text message from Faisal Hasan, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Home Affairs, was circulated to the media on Tuesday confirming the decision.

The move is part of the government’s broader initiative to end harassment of political opponents and ensure a fair political environment.

Earlier, the government had approved the withdrawal of 1,006 similar cases.

Ministry sources said, the withdrawal process will follow legal procedures, with relevant authorities instructed to take necessary steps.

The government said that the measures are aimed at ensuring justice, upholding democratic values, and restoring public confidence in the legal system.
