Actress Idhika Paul, who rose to prominence in Bangladesh opposite superstar Shakib Khan in the blockbuster Priyotoma, is reportedly set to make a return to the small screen after establishing herself as one of the busiest young stars in Bengali cinema.
The actress, whose big-screen debut came through Priyotoma, has since built a strong presence in both commercial and contemporary Bengali films.
She recently began shooting for director Srijit Mukherji’s upcoming film, but fresh reports suggest she may soon appear in a major television production.
According to Indian daily Anandabazar Patrika, Idhika is being considered to portray Goddess Durga in a Mahishasuramardini programme to be aired during this year’s Mahalaya celebrations on a leading Bengali television channel.
Neither the actress nor the television channel has officially confirmed the reports.
However, Indian media claim that discussions regarding the project have reached an advanced stage.
Idhika began her acting career on television before making a successful transition to films.
Although she has become a familiar face on the big screen, reports suggest she still maintains a strong connection to television.
Sources quoted by Indian media say the actress currently does not have the time to commit to a full-length television serial because of her busy film schedule.
Instead, she is expected to appear only in a special Mahalaya production if the project moves forward.
Besides her reported television return, Idhika is continuing work on Srijit Mukherji’s new film and is also expected to feature in a song from the upcoming film Deshu 7.
The actress has yet to comment publicly on either project.
Whether audiences will see her in the role of Goddess Durga this Mahalaya is expected to become clear once an official announcement is made.
