The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has donated emergency medical equipment to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to strengthen emergency healthcare activities amidst the ongoing measles outbreak in the country.
The donated supplies include 14 oxygen concentrators, 570 airway management devices, 12 bag-valve-mask (BVM) resuscitators, and manual suction devices, according to press release.
Health officials said the equipment will help healthcare facilities manage respiratory complications and other critical conditions associated with measles cases.
The handover ceremony took place at the Secretariat in the presence of Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain. Senior officials from the Ministry of Health and the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), along with representatives of the ICRC Bangladesh delegation, attended the event.
Jolisa Khanam, health programme manager of the ICRC Dhaka delegation, formally handed over the medical supplies to the health ministry on behalf of the humanitarian organisation.
During the ceremony, the ICRC reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining humanitarian cooperation and ongoing dialogue with national authorities to enhance emergency health preparedness and the overall capacity of the health system in Bangladesh
