Three International Criminal Court (ICC) judges have filed a lawsuit in a Manhattan federal court challenging sanctions imposed by the Trump administration last year.
Judges Kimberly Prost of Canada, Solomy Balungi Bossa of Uganda and Reine Adelaide Sophie Alapini‑Gansou of Benin argue the measures amount to “extra‑judicial pressure” by targeting their financial and personal interests, reports Al Jazeera.
They claim US President Donald Trump sought to punish them for prior ICC rulings, including arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the court’s decision to investigate alleged war crimes by US forces in Afghanistan.
The lawsuit states the sanctions have disrupted routine activities, as US restrictions block access to financial institutions and online services.
