Music director, composer and singer Ibrar Tipu, who has been battling cancer for nearly two years, has shared an encouraging update about his health.
Currently undergoing treatment in the United States, the singer says he is feeling better and hopes to return to music.
He also expressed his longing for Bangladesh, saying he misses the country’s people, soil and familiar surroundings.
Once he recovers, Tipu hopes to return home and reunite with his family, friends and fellow musicians.
In a recent video message on social media, Tipu was seen playing the harmonium and singing for the first time in nearly two years.
The emotional performance came after his voice gradually began returning following his second major surgery.
“I was able to sing after almost two years. Following my second surgery, I had almost lost my voice and could not even speak. I am much better now. I sang again at the request of my wife, Bindu Kona. I hope I will be able to sing again,” he said.
Tipu was diagnosed with kidney cancer after undergoing a series of medical tests in early 2025.
His treatment began in March that year, followed by two major surgeries.
He experienced significant difficulties speaking after the second surgery, making it almost impossible for him to sing or even speak normally.
His prolonged treatment and surgeries also caused him to lose considerable weight.
In July, photographs and videos of the singer circulated on social media, prompting concern among his fans and well-wishers. His wife, Bindu Kona, later confirmed that he had been diagnosed with cancer.
Speaking about his current condition, Tipu said, “I am much better than before. I recently underwent brain surgery, and the report was good. Please pray for me.”
After spending a long period in the United States for treatment, Tipu now hopes to return to Bangladesh once he recovers.
“I want to come home. I want to meet my family, friends, musicians and fellow artistes. I have wanted to do this for a long time. I will return home once I recover. Please stay well and keep me in your prayers,” he said.
