Sabina Yasmin has paid an emotional tribute to legendary Indian vocalist Asha Bhosle, describing her as one of the most humble and gracious artists she has ever encountered.

Reacting to Bhosle’s passing at the age of 92, Sabina Yasmin said the loss feels like the closing of a significant chapter in South Asian music history, adding that it is difficult to imagine the music world without her presence.

She recalled first hearing Asha Bhosle’s work in her childhood and later meeting her on two separate occasions, both of which left a lasting impression. One of those encounters took place at a recording session in Kolkata, where Bhosle reportedly praised her performance in front of composer Rahul Dev Burman, a moment Sabina described as both surprising and deeply encouraging.

Sabina also remembered another meeting in Dhaka, where she attended one of Bhosle’s performances at a hotel venue. She said that during their interaction backstage, Bhosle spoke warmly about her songs and appreciated her contribution to music, leaving her humbled by the praise.

Describing Bhosle beyond her artistic achievements, Sabina emphasised her simplicity and kindness despite her towering status in the industry. She said that such humility is rare among artists of her stature and can only truly be understood by those who had the chance to meet her closely.

Asha Bhosle’s death has sparked widespread mourning across the subcontinent, with tributes pouring in from fellow musicians and fans. Her career spanned more than seven decades, during which she recorded thousands of songs across multiple languages, leaving behind a vast and enduring musical legacy.
