Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Tuesday reiterated the government’s uncompromising stance against those involved in bus arson and crude bomb attacks, assuring the public that there is “nothing to fear”.
Speaking after a Council of Advisers meeting on law and order, he emphasised that no leniency would be shown to perpetrators and urged authorities to prevent bail for genuine offenders.
The meeting was held at the Home Ministry in the Bangladesh Secretariat.
Labeling arsonists as criminals, Jahangir called on political parties, the media, and citizens to actively support law enforcement in apprehending them. He outlined intensified patrols and heightened security at key installations, along with a temporary suspension of roadside fuel sales to prevent misuse.
Dismissing claims of intelligence failure, he said no major processions had occurred. Regarding the daylight killing of a “criminal” on Monday, he said the perpetrators would soon be brought to justice.
To curb cross-border crime, Border Guard Bangladesh has been tasked with tighter surveillance, he added.
Regarding the upcoming national election, Jahangir expressed satisfaction with preparations. He noted that law enforcement training is nearly complete. For election security, the government plans to deploy 1.5 lakh police, 5.5 lakh Ansar, and 1 lakh army personnel across the country.
