The High Court has suspended the ‘merit verification test’ for students in government primary schools for one month.
The tests were originally scheduled for 21, 22, 23, and 24 December.
A bench comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Md. Asif Hasan issued the ruling on Sunday, 14 December, following a preliminary hearing on a writ petition. Lawyer Niyaz Morshed represented the petitioners during the hearing.
He confirmed the court order on Wednesday. The High Court had earlier stayed the Directorate of Primary Education’s circular issued on 11 November, which was signed on 19 November.
The circular sets out the schedule for the merit verification tests. Its validity was challenged in a writ filed on 10 December by Faruk Hossain, principal of Keraniganj Public Laboratory School, along with two parents.
Morshed said the High Court has halted the tests for one month. As a result, the examinations will not take place.
The tests were intended only for government primary school students, which the petitioners argued violated a previous High Court ruling issued on 3 November.
