The High Court has dismissed a writ petition that challenged the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s election process, clearing the way for the board election to go ahead as planned on June 7.
The hearing on Writ Petition No. 6325 of 2026 resumed on Wednesday after the court held a partial hearing on Tuesday and fixed June 3 for the next session.
A High Court bench consisting of Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty and Justice Md Asif Hasan heard arguments from both sides before dismissing the petition.
The ruling means there is no legal obstacle to the BCB’s ongoing activities or the 2026 board election process.
The writ was filed by six councillors who questioned the validity of the election schedule and the voter list. The petition sought to challenge the process ahead of the upcoming election.
The BCB Election Commission announced the election schedule on May 16. Under that schedule, councillors will elect 23 directors on June 7. The National Sports Council will later nominate two more directors to complete the 25-member board.
Those 25 directors will then elect the next BCB president.
The state was represented during the hearing by the Attorney General and the Additional Attorney General. Barrister Mahin M Rahman appeared on behalf of the BCB.
The latest verdict is another boost for the election process. The High Court has also declined to intervene in three other separate writ petitions that challenged the current BCB ad hoc committee and the election arrangements.
With the petition dismissed, the BCB election is now set to proceed without any legal restrictions.
