The International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) on Tuesday set 4 January for the hearing on framing formal charges against former Major General Ziaul Ahsan in a case related to enforced disappearances and killings during the regime of the ousted Awami League government.
The three-member bench, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, issued the order.
Ziaul Ahsan has been shown as arrested in the case. Prosecutor Sheikh Mahdi, appearing for the prosecution, requested time for the charge-framing hearing and also sought permission to present Ziaul Ahsan in custody. Lawyer Nazneen Nahar represented the accused.
The tribunal conducted the hearing after police produced Ziaul Ahsan in court. He was originally scheduled to appear on 12 December, but could not be presented as the court order had not reached the prison.
Earlier, on 17 December, the tribunal accepted three formal charges filed by the prosecution against him.
According to the prosecution, Ziaul Ahsan served as director of the intelligence wing of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and as Additional Director General (Operations) from 2009 to 2016.
During this period, he is accused of directly participating in numerous enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings.
The prosecution alleges that many other murders, abductions, and crimes against humanity were carried out under his direct orders, approval, or knowledge by trusted RAB personnel.
